Since the Law entry into force, the citizenship of the Republic of Estonia will also be granted to persons under the age of 15 who do not have citizenship, permanently live in the territory of Estonia, and whose parents have legally lived in Estonia at least for 5 years and also do not have citizenship.
In particular, the amendments to the Law will allow underage persons to obtain, in addition to Estonian citizenship, also the citizenship of another state. But it is worth noting that all persons who have received both Estonian citizenship and another country citizenship when they were underage, will have to renounce one citizenship by the age of 21.
In addition, the Law will facilitate the acquisition of Estonian citizenship for persons over 65: these persons will be exempted from the written part of the Estonian language exam.
